Michael and Gina Shubert are the owners of Maggio’s Restaurant located in Southampton. Michael began the restaurant when he was 21 years old, and turned it into the legend it is today!
Michael always knew he wanted his own restaurant – he grew up in the food and restaurant business – working in his parent’s grocery store in West Oak Lane and delicatessen in Northeast Philadelphia. When he began his search for a restaurant location, he settled on Southampton, just north of Philadelphia. Though it was mostly farmland at that time, the region was growing, and there was only one other restaurant in that area. When he learned a new shopping center was being planned for 2nd Street Pike, he took the leap and signed a lease, naming his restaurant Maggio’s, which officially opened in 1976. His dream had come true!
Word spread that Maggio’s offered delicious homemade meals, using fresh, quality ingredients, and the business grew. As the restaurant grew, Michael talked his wife, Gina, into coming into the business, saying it would be “a family adventure.” Maggio’s has been a family affair ever since.
Sons Josh and Sam handle the menu, cooking and overseeing new services like catering and custom orders. Daughter Becky handles the social media and graphic design from Chicago where she lives….but she jumps in to help with serving or bartending whenever she comes home. Julie, another daughter, decided her future was in show business. “When Julie won an Emmy for her work on casting for the Netflix series, “House of Cards,” we finally forgave her for not working at the restaurant! “ Gina adds with a chuckle.
The business grew and expanded, and soon, they needed a full service accounting/CPA firm to help them guide its growth.
